The Hydrologic Cycle

The round and round ramblings, sketches, and animations of Alex King.

I have returned…

…with more assignments it has taken me FAAAAAAR too long to put up on here.

WARNING!!! THESE VIDEOS HAVE SOUND!!! ADJUST YOUR SPEAKERS ACCORDINGLY!!! :P

First off, we have our first real “acting” assignment for the year. Meet “Noodles”. He’s a weird flour sack kind of guy who is apparently an idiot. He’s tasked with changing a lightbulb but makes a horrible mess of things, which gets him called into his bosses office.

Next, we have our first “lip sync” assignment. For this assignment we were given all of the mouth shapes and asked to use them to bring Mr. Paisley’s firing of Noodles to life.

Last, we have Noodles reaction to being fired by Mr. Paisley. This assignment was meant to bring all of the acting and lip sync assignments together into one.

The animation isn’t fully completed for these assignments. I’ve been trying to focus on the key poses in order to get as much life into the performances as possible and this usually means I don’t have much time for doing the inbetweens at the end.

I started animation for my final film project this past week, so I should be posting some things from that over the next couple of months. I’m not sure how I’m going to go about it, because I don’t want to give away too much, but we’ll see how it goes. :)

Anyhow, hope you enjoyed these!

Dumpo the Magician

So this is what a half finished animation assignment looks like. :S

Some good friends of ours were in Vancouver for a few days so instead of spending my weekend working on animations, I spent it at Whistler shredding the mountains on my snowboard.

So, apparently, having fun in the mountains means getting animated characters with no face. With the beginnings of my animated film project coming up, I guess I won’t be having much fun in the mountains for a while. :S

Anyhow, enjoy the disjointed-ness that is “DUMPO THE MAGNIFICENT”!!! :D

For all the Tinkerbell fans…

Just a quick one today. :)

Our latest Effects Animation assignment found us animating a trail of “pixie dust”. I’ve always marveled at how “patient” and “exacting” and “crazy” the people who animated all that magical dust for Tinkerbell must have been.

Now, after animating THOUSANDS OF SINGLE POINTS OF LIGHT… I know. :P

Hope you enjoy! :)

KW.: "Why It's Free"

Hey guys, my friend Kevin makes great music…and then he gives it away for free. Here’s why. :)

kevinwilliamsmusic:

Yesterday The Complete released the digital 45 “Part 2: Realizations”. Some people have been asking why it’s free.

It’s something I’ve thought about for a long time. I’ve come to the conclusion that music IS free, whether anyone likes it or not. For most of the 20th century, if you wanted to…

Animation Update DOUBLE HEADER

Seems like everytime I post on this here tumblr-blog I start by apologizing for not posting here enough…NOT THIS TIME!!! D:<

Instead I’ll get right to the business. I’ve done two animation assignments since we got back after Christmas and here they are.

The first one involves a character endeavoring to lift a large, and presumably heavy, ball. Lets see how they make out. :)

The second one involves a foolish silhouette who overestimates his abilities when it comes to “the drink”.

Hope you all likey. :)

Howdy y’all!
We are currently doing a Photoshop class 2 days a week and for todays class we had to colour some of our characters from Term 1. So…here are a couple of everyones favorite characters…IN COLOUR!!!
Hope you like! :)

Howdy y’all!

Hey! How’s everyone doing!?

Just dropping in to post a few pictures from a Character Design assignment I recently completed. We had to provide the full treatment for two characters that belong in the same story / universe, and since I’ve been watching a bit of “Regular Show” and “Adventure Time” lately I figured I try and see if I could fit some familiar characters into those shows.

I’ll let you be the judge if I succeeded. :)

Hellooo! A quick post today because I have a tonne of things to do around the apartment and also school work…so…enjoy my version of a walking dog…ish…type…creature. :D

Also, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Here’s to a great 2012 for everyone! :)

Term 2 is in the books!!!

So I just finished up my second term of VFS and it feels pretty good. Looking back on everything I’ve done in the past 4 months is pretty mind boggling.

To celebrate this occasion I have not one, but TWO animations to share with you! :) The first one is an in-class assignment we did yesterday for Effects Animation. We had to animate a bubble floating around for a bit and then popping. They provided a heinously cute monster and I brought its mucousy excretions to life! :P

The second video is also from Effects Animation, but we had a little more time to complete this one. It is about a foolish scientist who doesn’t quite understand the chemicals he’s mixing. Hilarity ensues. :D

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy!

ALSO… Sarah and I are heading back to Newfoundland for Christmas and my SISTERS WEDDING/PARTY OF THE YEAR in a few days! Can’t wait to see everyone! :)

These posts are starting to slow down a bit. I will have to do my best to make sure I keep up with things. :(

Anyhow, the above animation was made for our latest Layout assignment entitled, “Dad in the Bushes”. Again, your guess is as good as mine. :P The point of the assignment was to get acquainted with multi-level pans in order to bring that “feeling of parallax” into our animations. I figured I’d add a few little “jungle themed” elements to Liven it up. thOse with a keen eye and good taSte in television might find the Things I put in. ;)

Check back tomorrow or the next day because I have a few more Effects Animation assignments in the works. :)
